ASHGABAT, 10 October (BelTA) – The declaration on strategic economic cooperation among the CIS member states is developed in the context of the ongoing processes of digitization. The draft will be reviewed by the CIS leaders at the summit in Ashgabat on 11 October, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told the media, BelTA has learned.
The idea of the document was suggested by the president of Turkmenistan. “It immediately received support of the CIS member states. Meticulous work has been done to reach agreement on the text of the declaration over the last two years,” Sergei Lebedev said.
“As time passes, many documents that govern our economic relations gradually become outdated. New issues arise in international affairs and economic relations. This declaration is designed to meet our today's needs in the development of economic ties. The declaration has some new features. For instance, there are some new terms like digitization and digital economy,” the CIS executive secretary said when asked why such a document is needed if economic cooperation between the CIS countries is already active.
Thus, the draft declaration contains provisions that are relevant to the current economic relations between the CIS countries. “It has received support of all CIS member states. The declaration has been developed jointly. The representatives of the countries have supplemented it with their proposals. We hope that this important and comprehensive document will regulate activities in economic cooperation in the coming years,” Sergei Lebedev added.
According to the CIS Executive Committee website, the draft declaration will be reviewed by the leaders of the countries at the CIS summit. “The draft is a system of approaches towards common goals, objectives and priorities in social and economic development that have been agreed among the CIS member states. They aim to expand and deepen interstate economic relations, to ensure sustainable development and economic safety, to expand science and technology and innovation cooperation as a basis for joint production of competitive goods, to strengthen the positions of the CIS countries in the world economy and to improve the well-being of people and living standards,” the official website informs.
