BREST DISTRICT, 11 November (BelTA) – Brest Oblast has posted better results in agriculture this year, First Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Dmitry Gorodetsky said at a meeting with honored workers of agricultural production and processing, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Gorodetsky praised the results of the current year, expressing gratitude to the workers of the agricultural and processing sectors. “Already at this point, I believe, we will reach 2 million tonnes of grain, I should note, meaning cereals and corn, excluding rapeseed. This is the first time in the history of our region. The same applies to 1.5 million tonnes of cereal grains, which has also been achieved for the first time,” he said. “The harvesting of sugar beet is coming to an end. 1.2 million tonnes will also be a historic result. The yield is good, we have added more than 80 centners per hectare compared to last year’s level.”

The southwestern region is also making progress in animal husbandry. “This year, at least 8,150-8,200kg of milk will be produced per cow. Last year, I remind you, it was 7,731kg. So, the increase is significant. We have also added in weight gain,” he emphasized.
Dmitry Gorodetsky stressed that behind every achievement lies the hard work of farmers and strict adherence to technology. The increase in agricultural production allows for a higher utilization of processing enterprises and, consequently, enables the supply of more products abroad. Food accounts for a significant share in the exports of Brest Oblast.

“We are delighted with the pace. It was over 14% last year, and this year growth has already exceeded 25%. This translates into revenue and, in the end, into salaries of our people,” the first deputy chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee said.

The footprint of our food exports is steadily growing, with a focus on distant markets and Africa. “We prioritize high-profit markets. While the Russian Federation remains our key partner, we operate in many countries, China among them. Our current target is Algeria. This is a challenging process that requires significant effort to enter and establish ourselves,” Dmitry Gorodetsky said.
