Belarusian defense export in 2018 past $1bn

MINSK, 2 January (BelTA) – The volume of products and services exported by enterprises run by the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus in 2018 is expected to reach $1.027 billion. In 2014-2017 the figure grew by nearly seven times – from $143 million to over $960 million, BelTA learned from the Committee's Chairman Roman Golovchenko at a solemn event dedicated to the 15th anniversary since the committee was established.

The State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus puts a lot of effort into developing promising areas of research – design schools, rocket engineering, instrument-making for space industry, electronics, information and communication technologies, robot technologies. “In complicated conditions we've managed to secure progressive advancement. In 2014-2017 the industrial output of organizations belonging to the system of the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus rose by 5.6 times,” said the official. Roman Golovchenko reminded that the head of state wants the Belarusian defense industry to promptly find and systemically develop new branches utilizing its own potential, military technology cooperation schemes, create modern weapon products, which the Belarusian army and the global market need.

Roman Golovchenko pointed out that working to fulfill the head of state's instructions the committee had secured a closed-loop cycle to make promising defense products in many areas. “Rather a lot has been done but a great deal will have to be done. We will have to reach a new development stage – from the stage of stabilization, planning, and development to the creation of high-tech weapon systems and military hardware. We will have to considerably improve our export vector, too,” stressed the chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus.
