Belarusian companies seek permits to export pork to China

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – Belarusian companies intend to obtain the right to export pork to China, BelTA learned from Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko during the 30th international agriculture expo Belagro 2020 on 29 September.

The official said: “We very tightly work with Chinese partners. Food sales to China increased by 2.7 times in January-July to $134 million. It is not the limit. New enterprises are being certified. Dairy industry enterprises, enterprises that process poultry meat and beef have been vetted to export their products to China. Our pig farms and processing enterprises are being certified for exporting pork to China now.”

Russia remains Belarus' key partner in agribusiness. In 2019 Belarus exported $5.5 billion worth of agricultural products, with Russia's share at $4.4 billion. “But we are intent on export diversification. We are opening new countries. More products are being exported to CIS markets and remote ones,” the agriculture and food minister added.

He continued: “We have a great deal of work to do with our partners. In order to sell a product, we need not only quality but a competitive price as well. Our plans for the next five-year term include the modernization of agricultural and processing enterprises in order to secure a competitive edge on foreign markets.”

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus' export of agricultural products and food totaled $3.2 billion in January-July 2020. The growth rate amounted to 106.5%, with the increase in monetary terms at $196.6 million. The export of meat and meat products rose by 14.8% to $572.3 million, with sugar shipments up by 25.1% to $98.3 million. The export geography increased to 101 countries.
