Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation plans annual exports at $300m

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation plans its annual exports at $300 million after reaching full capacity, Director of the Strategic Development and Planning Department of the Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation Ilya Snopkov said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We plan to develop a full cycle, a cluster that will meet the needs of our country. We also plan to export some part of our products (about 50%) to earn foreign currency for our country. Once we reach full capacity, we will export some $300 million worth of products,” said Ilya Snopkov.

The premium market in this regard is Europe which imports products of deep processing of grain. “It will not be difficult to occupy some 5-10% of its market. A number of agreements have already been reached with major consumers and the relevant preliminary agreements on the intention to purchase amino acids of the Belarusian production have been signed,” Ilya Snopkov added.

According to him, the Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation is unmatched worldwide, as it represents a full biotechnology cycle in one place. The implementation of this project will put Belarus on a par with such countries as Japan, China, the United States and the Republic of Korea.

Director of Biotechnology Department of the Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation Aleksandr Bildyukevich said that the Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation is a unique project that provides for deep processing of grain up to the final stage, i.e. amino acids. The amino acid is a structural element of all proteins in the body. “We produce three amino acids: lysine, threonine and tryptophan. These are the so-called major limiting amino acids in animal production. They are needed for correct balancing of fodder. The lack of these amino acids makes the animal's growth worse,” he explained. If these amino acids are added to the diet in the right amount, the animal weights will grow. The Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation believes that meat will become cheaper and of higher quality with the production of Belarusian amino acids and their application in the domestic agriculture.

Deputy Director of the Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation Nadezhda Kotkovets stressed that domestic products should be competitive, especially in export markets, and the Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation can help with this. “The image of the Belarusian product is undeniable. However, our products are expensive, as fodder does not produce yields which are expected. We plan to build three feed mills and a premix plant. The total production capacity of the two-shift operation will be 550,000 tonnes, the capacity of feed mills will allow to produce about 1 million tonnes of balanced concentrated fodder,” said Nadezhda Kotkovets.

The Belarusian Biotechnology Corporation launched its project to organize high-tech agro-industrial production of the full cycle in 2016-2032 in Pukhovichi District, Minsk Oblast in summer 2018. The Chinese corporation CITIC Group acts as a general contractor and shareholder. The project envisages the construction of 14 plants with phased commissioning. The corporation plans deep processing of grain using modern methods of biotechnology to produce essential amino acids (lysine, tryptophan, threonine) for the production of highly-productive, hi-tech, balanced fodder and fodder additives. Products will be used domestically and exported to the markets of Russia, Ukraine, EU countries and China.
