ALGIERS, 3 December (BelTA) – Belarus will supply Algeria with powdered milk in a deal valued at over $1.5 million, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov told reporters, BelTA has learned.
The minister highlighted the two nations’ mutual interest in supplying food products. Belarus, for instance, is interested in importing exotic fruits, while a wide range of Belarusian goods are in demand on the Algerian market.
This primarily concerns the supply of skim milk powder. Cooperation in this area began in 2024 with the first shipments to Algeria. An agreement has now been reached to continue these sales. “During the visit [of the Belarusian president to Algeria], an agreement was signed for the supply of skim milk powder worth over $1.5 million,” the minister explained.
“Algeria imports large quantities of skim milk powder and whole milk powder,” Yuri Gorlov informed. “The country imports approximately 350,000 tonnes of milk powder, which is used to produce various foods: whole milk, yogurt, cheese, and other products. This year, we have exported 35,000 tonnes of skim milk powder. So, the Algerian market is very large, and we have much to work on together.”
Furthermore, the possibility of establishing joint ventures for milk processing is under discussion. Algerian specialists will visit Belarus for this purpose. “We have invited our colleagues to Belarus to see our dairy production facilities and have discussed the possibility of setting up a joint venture, which could act as a hub for selling our products, including jointly manufactured foodstuffs, to other African countries,” the minister noted.
Additionally, during the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Algeria, a veterinary certificate was signed for the sale of dry baby formula produced by the Bellakt company.
It was also agreed that Algerian specialists will visit Belarus in the near future to confirm the halal certification for the country’s meat and dairy products, which was previously issued by the BelHalal organization.
Belarus has also presented the Algerian side with proposals for constructing dairy processing facilities, tailored to the local climate.
