Belarus takes part in China-SCO Forum on Digital Economy

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) - Belarus took part in the China-SCO Forum on Digital Economy, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Beijing.

“Belarus took part in the China-SCO Forum on Digital Economy and in China's largest exhibition of smart technologies Smart China Expo 2021, which were held in the largest central city of Chongqing on 22-24 August,” the diplomatic mission said.

During the opening ceremony of the forum, welcoming speeches were delivered by Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China Liu He and First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov (online). Nikolai Snopkov noted that the digital economy is the most important trend and a new driving force behind the countries' economic development and global trade, and recalled the initiative put forward by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to develop an IT ecosystem of the SCO.

Speaking at the plenary sessions dedicated to the digital economy, e-commerce, the SCO trade and economic platform, smart tourism and logistics, presentations in online and offline formats were Minsk Oblast Governor Aleksandr Turchin, Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan, Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoi, and also diplomats of the Belarusian Embassy in China.

At the Smart China Expo 2021 the National Pavilion of Belarus featured the country's innovative potential and the largest project of the Belarusian-Chinese strategic cooperation – Great Stone Industrial Park.

Belarusian diplomats held meetings with the leadership of the city of Chongqing and business circles interested in cooperation with Belarus on the sidelines of the event. Particular attention to the development of cooperation with Belarus was paid by member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Chongqing Party Committee Chen Min'er. During his visit to the national pavilion, Consul General of Belarus in Chongqing Dmitry Yemelyanov made a presentation of the country's economic and technological potential and noted new opportunities for cooperation with China.
