Belarus sees 2% rise in new car sales for September

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Sales of new cars in Belarus increased by 2% in September 2025, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA).

“In September, official sales of new passenger cars in Belarus were 2% higher than in August, reaching 4,352 units. In total, from January to September, 37,100 new cars were sold, compared to 32,500 year-on-year. This means the market has grown by 14%. However, it should be noted that this increase was formed in the first quarter of the year, and in recent months, sales have been following last year's pattern,” the association reported.

The leader in the passenger car market is Belgee with 14,917 cars, followed by Lada with 9,801 cars (including the Largus model) and Geely with 3,910 cars. These same three brands showed the best results in September as well. The Belgee and Geely brands together account for more than half of the market.

The absolute leader among models is the Belgee X50, with over 7,500 units sold since the start of the year. The Lada Vesta and Belgee X70 are also in the top three, but lag behind by almost half. An important trend is the growing share of electric vehicles. Official market participants have already sold 5,616 “green” cars this year, compared to 1,998 in the same period last year (a 2.8-fold increase). The best-selling models are the Dongfeng Box, Voyah Free, and Geely EX5.

Several negative factors will impact the official automobile market in Belarus in the coming months. A high recycling fee is in effect for imported internal combustion engine vehicles for legal entities (including Chinese brands assembled in Russia, for which intergovernmental issues have not been resolved). Furthermore, the 2025 quota for the duty-free import of electric vehicles and series hybrid cars has recently been exhausted, which will lead to a temporary suspension of imports of such vehicles by legal entities.

“In this regard, a significant seasonal sales increase is not expected in the final months of 2025, and the market is anticipated to remain close to current levels,” the BAA said.
