Belarus-Russia Union State launches committee on standardization and quality

MOSCOW, 26 February (BelTA) – Following the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 26 February, a decision has been made to establish the Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality, BelTA has learned.

“A Committee on Standardization and Quality has been established, which will address the development of common approaches to standardization and the quality control of our goods. This will be interagency work aimed at protecting our consumers and producers from an influx of substandard products. We expect that with the creation of this committee, the quality of both our consumer market and the equipment market will improve, and that goods imported into our territory in violation of the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union will be displaced in the interests of domestic manufacturers,” State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev told journalists.

The idea of creating the committee stems from the introduction of the “Union State product” and the intention to establish an expert platform for discussing claims raised by either side, removing barriers in mutual trade, strengthening consumer protection, and safeguarding the market from unsafe or low‑quality products.

The committee has been created as a coordination and integration platform for industrial, scientific, educational, and regulatory spheres.

Its formation is planned to follow the model of the Union State Supranational Tax Committee. No expenditures from the Union State budget will be required to maintain the committee.

The Council of Ministers of the Union State has been instructed to approve the regulations for the committee within two months.
