Belarus-Russia gas talks ongoing

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia continue negotiations on the price for the Russian gas to be in effect from 2020, Belarus' Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told reporters at the first national forum on sustainable development on 24 January, BelTA has learned.

“Negotiations are underway both at the level of relevant ministries and at the level of deputy prime ministers. The negotiation process continues,” Viktor Karankevich said.

The price for the Russian gas for Belarus stands at $127 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2019.

According to earlier agreements, the parties must agree on the Russian gas price for Belarus for 2020-2024 by 1 July 2019. As Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko underlined earlier, Belarus wants equal conditions for economic operators, rather than low prices for the Russian gas.
