Belarus PM urges faster digital transformation across EAEU

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) - Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksnadr Turchin outlined priorities for digital development within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) during an expanded-format meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, on 15 August, BelTA has learned.

“The focus on digital transformation is inevitable and must include creating a unified digital business platform, developing e-commerce, and implementing automated management and logistics systems. While progress is being made, we must stay ahead of the curve. I propose that EEC experts and member states conduct a comprehensive review of existing digital initiatives, identify gaps, and address bottlenecks. We should consider codifying this work as a separate chapter in the foundational treaty to streamline regulations, accelerate processes, improve their quality, and underscore digitalization as an absolute priority for the EAEU,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

The prime minister emphasized that free movement of goods depends on establishing a unified technical regulation system across the union. “This is a major project within the Eurasian Economic Union and a cornerstone of deeper integration and mutual trade. Currently, about 85% of products in member states comply with unified safety standards. However, challenges remain in ensuring the integrity of conformity assessment services, eliminating incompetent labs and certification bodies, and preventing unjustified issuance of certificates and test reports. These issues are critical for safeguarding our common market from unsafe products. Until the end of the year we need to complete the Digital Technical Regulation project, which aims to digitalize the development of union-wide technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures,” the prime minister stressed.
