Belarus' planting season 95.1% complete

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Planting on some 95.1% of the areas designated for spring sowing have been completed in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 20 May, spring planting in Belarus was completed on the area of 2,112,700 hectares. Vitebsk Oblast completed planting works on 98.7% of the planned area, Gomel Oblast – 84.6%, Grodno Oblast – 99.8%, Minsk Oblast – 99.3%, and Mogilev Oblast – 81.1%. Planting in Brest Oblast has been completed.

Belarusian agricultural workers continue planting buckwheat (18,900 hectares, or 57.1%), millet (5,900 hectares, or 62.1%), flax (44,700 hectares, or 99.5%), sugar beet (94,700 hectares, or 96.2%), vegetables (4,730 hectares, or 98.7%). Maize was planted on 970,200 hectares, or 91.2% of the target. Potato planting has been completed.

A total of 2,195,300 hectares of soil (98.8% of the plan) was prepared for sowing spring crops. This year, these crops will be planted on the area of 2,221,900 hectares.
