MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) - Belarus aims to supply powdered milk to West Africa through the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.
BUCE accredited the first company from Senegal. The new participant in the exchange trading intends to purchase skimmed powdered milk, which is widely used in the food industry of Senegal. According to the BUCE press service, a domestic dairy company helped to attract Senegal’s importer. The Senegalese resident used the simplified accreditation procedure established by BUCE for foreign companies as part of efforts to expand the geography of Belarusian dairy product sales through the exchange.
"Senegal is among the largest consumers of dairy products in West Africa. Last year, the country imported nearly 34,000 tonnes of dairy products worth $106 million. For Belarusian dairy processing companies, this is not only a promising sales market but also an opportunity to strengthen their position in the region as a whole, for instance, by using Senegal as a gateway to potential buyers in Guinea, Mauritania, and Mali. Last year, companies from 24 countries purchased dairy products through exchange trading, with total deals amounting to $800 million. This year, foreign business interest in the exchange mechanism remains high. In January-February 2025, sales of powdered milk, butter, cheese, cottage cheese, and other dairy products abroad reached $108 million, up by 39% year-on-year," the BUCE press service stated.
Currently, a total of 35,939 companies are accredited at BUCE, including 8,186 non-residents from 80 countries. The African continent is now represented by six countries: Egypt, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Senegal, South Africa, and Seychelles.
Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
