MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – We are interested in developing the transit potential of our countries, Belarus' Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Sergei Dubina said during a meeting with Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Mohammad-Ali Dehghan Dehnavi in Minsk on 15 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.
The Iranian side informed the participants about the progress in the construction of the Astara-Rasht railway sections, including towards Chabahar port. This one of the largest ports in the country is a key element in the international North-South transit corridor.
Sergei Dubina emphasized Belarus' interest in launching a direct air service between Tehran and Minsk, which would be operated by Iranian airlines. He expressed confidence that Iran’s observer status at the EAEU would facilitate the development of trade between the two countries and within the union.
"Iran has a favorable geographical position. It is a bridge connecting Belarus with the Persian Gulf states. I am confident that the potential of the SCO and EAEU integration associations will contribute to the development of transportation carried out by our countries," he said.
