MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian government expressed concern about the growing import of food products as it gathered for a session on 5 November to discuss economic performance in January-September 2019, BelTA has learned.
“The imbalance in foreign trade continues growing. Belarus' export is declining while import has been on the rise,” Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas noted.
For example, import of confectionery rose by 15% in terms of value, chocolate by 30%, wheat flour by two times, beer by 19%, water (including mineral and sparkling water) by 6%.
In this regard, Sergei Rumas asked the Belgospishcheprom food industry concern to comment on the current state of affairs and report on measures it will take to handle this situation.
The Council of Ministers is also set to review the progress on the key investment projects. Heads of government agencies should ensure that the most important projects are finished on time, yield results, and reach their design capacity, Sergei Rumas said.
