GOMEL, 18 September (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast intends to deepen its cooperation with partners from Slovakia, Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko said at a meeting with heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states ahead of the 19th Gomel Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.
Ivan Krupko emphasized that Belarus-Slovakia cooperation has stood the test of time. “Important steps on this path include meetings in Yelsk and joint commemorative events to honor Hero of the Soviet Union, Slovak Ján Nálepka. Cultural and educational exchanges may continue this good tradition,” he said.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migaš noted that he had not visited Belarus in five years, and this was his second visit since his new appointment. “What brings joy is the peace and security on Belarusian soil. That’s very important, because without calm, it’s hard for people to live, work, and grow the economy. It’s good that prosperity is being maintained despite sanctions,” he emphasized, expressing hope that core human values will continue to be preserved for the well-being of the people.
The diplomat also expressed readiness to develop joint projects, renew cooperation across several areas, and in some cases, start almost from scratch under new conditions. “For my part, I will do everything possible to ensure that our ties remain strong, and develop the economy and cooperation. It’s a challenging task, but it’s achievable,” he noted.
Ambassador Jozef Migaš has already attended four economic forums in Gomel, and said he gladly accepted the invitation to visit the new edition. “It’s important to be proactive and use this time not only for business relations, but also for friendship and strengthening human connections. I’m glad that Belarus remembers the heroic legacy of Ján Nálepka. That’s one of our most important shared values and a symbol of the many historical dates and ideals we have in common. This must continue to be developed,” the ambassador affirmed.
The Gomel Economic Forum brought together around 500 participants from various countries. Over the years, the forum has become a recognized and respected platform to discuss key issues of international trade, economic and investment cooperation, and to establish reliable long-term interregional and collaborative ties.
