Belarus’ foreign trade 3.6% up in January-May to $39.5bn

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – In January-May 2024 Belarus’ foreign trade in merchandise and services increased by 3.6% from the same period of last year to $39.5 billion, BelTA learned from the statistics data released by the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

In May 2024 merchandise export grew faster than import. As a result, the deficit of foreign merchandise trade dropped by $129 million in one month. On the whole, in January-May 2024 the deficit amounted to $1.7 billion, with merchandise export at $16 billion and merchandise import at $17.7 billion.

The deficit of foreign merchandise trade was offset by positive results of foreign trade in services to a great extent. The surplus of foreign trade in services totaled $1.2 billion in January-May 2024. In the five months of 2024 the export of services amounted to $3.5 billion, with import at $2.3 billion.
