MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - Up to 72% of Belarusian woodworking products are supplied abroad, Chairman of the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom Aleksandr Pshenny said in an interview with the Economy of Belarus magazine.
According to Aleksandr Pshenny, these products are supplied primarily to the Russian Federation, Asian countries, including the CIS and the Middle East, reaching 35 countries in 2025. However, the key trading partners remain Russia and China.
Aleksandr Pshenny recalled that a complete ban on the import of Belarusian wood products into the European Union was introduced on 4 June 2022. Following another package of European sanctions adopted on 29 June 2024, the ban was extended to include pulp, paper, multi-layered cardboard, paper packaging, and furniture. The industry is developing under challenging conditions, with an active and continuous search for new sales markets underway.
“There are already results: we have managed to achieve a positive trend in export in the past year and the first half of the current one, while also maintaining a high degree of export orientation,” Aleksandr Pshenny said. “The main products in demand are boards and timber (32% of total exports), paper, cardboard, and products made from them (29%), pulp (17%), and furniture (13%).”
In 2025, work continues amid sanctions, declining market prices, the search for alternative suppliers of imported materials and components, and the development of new sales avenues for products.
