Belarus eager to get last tranche of EFSD loan in January

BREST, 13 December (BelTA) – Belarus intends to get the last tranche of the loan from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) in January 2019, BelTA learned from Belarusian Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich on the sidelines of the session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Brest.

The finance minister said: “I hope the entire program on cooperation with the EFSD will be fully realized in January and we will get $200 million [as the last tranche].”

Maksim Yermolovich reminded that 1 December was the check date for evaluating results of the program backed by the EFSD loan in Belarus. “We are compiling a report on hitting the targets set by the program and will forward this report to the EFSD. It will be reviewed and evaluated. An EFSD monitoring mission will have to make a conclusion about results of fulfilling the entire program. After that the matter will be discussed at a session of the board of experts and the EFSD council,” the official explained.

BelTA reported earlier that in H1 2015 Belarus requested a new loan to the tune of $3 billion from the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund (now known as the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development). The initial sum of $3 billion was reduced to $2 billion after negotiations. Belarus is supposed to receive the money in seven tranches.
