Belarus completes sugar beet harvest

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The sugar beet harvest in Belarus has been completed, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“Sugar beet has been harvested from 100% of the area (108,000 hectares). The harvest has yielded 5,899,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 51 centners per hectare higher than last year. Some 83% of the harvested beets, amounting to 4,876,000 tonnes, have been transported to sugar beet collection points,” the press service said.

As of 21 November, some 10,899,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus. The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.709 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 2.185 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 2.152 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.407 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.371 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.075 million tonnes.

The grain harvest, including corn, is now complete on 99% of the area, covering 2.266 million hectares. Average grain yield (with corn) is 43.6 centners per hectare, 5.5 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

The harvest of flax straw totals 211,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 12 centners per hectare higher than the previous year. So far Belarus has harvested 14.086 million tonnes of haylage (101% of the plan), 20.047 million tonnes of silage (97% of the plan) and 9.766 million tonnes of grass forage units (97% of the plan).

Nationwide, 240,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested, with 100% of the area cleared.

Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 1,233,000 hectares, representing 86% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
