MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – The main directions of strategic cooperation between Belarus and China in trade and manufacturing were the key issues on the agenda of a business forum held in Shanghai, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE).
The event, which brought together more than 30 representatives of Chinese business, was organized by BUCE and a major Chinese producer of packaging materials and equipment accredited at BUCE in December 2025. Consul General of Belarus in Shanghai Aleksandr Shevchenko also took part in the forum.
Given that 2026-2027 have been declared the Years of Industrial Cooperation between Belarus and China, the focus of the event was on finding ways to intensify interaction between the two countries in industrial production and trade in industrial goods, including through the exchange mechanism. As noted by head of BUCE’s Shanghai office Aleksei Dykusha, in 2025 Chinese producers regularly used the exchange platform to supply Belarus with a wide range of industrial and consumer goods, and there is every reason to believe that transaction volumes in this segment of the exchange market will continue to grow this year.
“In the past year, Chinese companies significantly increased sales of industrial and consumer goods on exchange trades: from $930,000 in 2024 to more than $12 million in 2025. Through the exchange, not only spare parts and components were sold, but also industrial tools, special equipment, technological machinery, and vehicles. As a result, the share of deals in this category accounted for 67% of total exchange imports from China. Of these, 24% in value terms were import-substitution products. All this demonstrates the growing interest of Chinese suppliers in the Belarusian market and in the exchange channel of sales. I believe this opens up additional opportunities for expanding mutual trade turnover and strengthening trade and economic relations between our countries,” Aleksei Dykusha said.
In 2025, BUCE accredited 100 residents of China to participate in exchange trading of various groups of raw and non-raw goods. At present, the total number of Chinese users of the Belarusian platform stands at 348 companies, three of which have the status of exchange brokers.
Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
