Belarus aims to enhance trade, investment cooperation with China

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) - Belarus aims to enhance trade, economic and investment cooperation with China, Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar said at the meeting of the Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Belarusian-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation. The meeting took place at the Great Stone Industrial Park on 19 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.

The minister outlined promising areas of bilateral cooperation. First of all, it is the build-up of bilateral trade. According to Yuri Chebotar, it is necessary to continue diversification of Belarusian exports through high value-added products, accreditation of domestic producers, development of electronic platforms in China. It is also important to prepare and sign a pool of strategic interdepartmental documents in various areas of the economy, which will create a basis for deepening cooperation and building new mechanisms of interaction.

“We count on the arrival of Chinese direct investment in the projects of the industrial park and other territories within the main industries and clusters - mechanical engineering, electronics and telecommunications, medicine. The strategic areas of cooperation are automobile and machine tool industries,” the economy minister said.

Belarus remains the shortest route for container trains from China to Europe and back, and for this purpose it is necessary to develop the transport and logistics sector.

Yuri Chebotar emphasized the importance of implementing technical and economic assistance projects, noting that the construction of international-class sport facilities (a football stadium and a swimming pool, which are being built with the financial support of China) should be completed this year.
