MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – India could become a regional manufacturing and service hub for Belarusian machinery, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Republic of Belarus Ashok Kumar said in an interview with BelTA on the occasion of the national holiday – Republic Day, which the country celebrates on 26 January.

The diplomat shared his views on the prospects for Belarus-India relations. “I believe that in the future we will further strengthen the traditionally strong areas of cooperation, while also developing new mechanisms and areas of interaction,” he noted.

In particular, he said, India is interested in agricultural machinery such as MTZ tractors and BelAZ dump trucks for its coal mines. “Given the size of the Indian market, as well as India’s pivotal position connecting West, South and Southeast Asia, we welcome Belarusian companies to invest in manufacturing as part of our Make In India initiative and benefit from our production incentive mechanisms and other similar programs. India could become the regional manufacturing, export and service hub for Belarusian machinery,” the diplomat stated.

Ambassador Ashok Kumar went on saying: “Both of our countries have a strong base in information technology and services. We could cooperate more actively in human resource development, skills training, and projects to advance e‑government. As India becomes a global center for financial technologies, Indian IT and ICT companies can support Belarus in building a robust digital infrastructure for its financial sector. We welcome more companies to explore the possibility of establishing joint ventures under the Make in India initiative and making use of our production incentive mechanisms.”

The ambassador expressed confidence that Belarus and India will be able to realize their potential and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.
