Ambassador: Belarus, Russia’s Vologda Oblast aim for $1bn in trade in 2015

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Vologda Oblast should reach $1 billion in mutual trade in 2025, Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik said during negotiations with Governor of Vologda Oblast of Russia Georgy Filimonov in Moscow on 3 March, BelTA has learned.

"It is worth noting that in 2024 our trade totaled almost $700 million. This is good. I think we will be able to achieve $1 billion in 2025. This is the goal we will strive for," Ambassador Aleksandr Rogozhnik said.

He pointed out that Vologda Oblast is a unique region. "It is home to one of the major metallurgical plants which supply a large amount of raw materials to our country. It also has an enterprise engaged in assembling Belarus-made tractors and agricultural machinery: Cherepovets Casting and Mechanical Plant," the ambassador emphasized.

Ambassador Aleksandr Rogozhnik offered the Vologda Oblast governor to discuss bilateral agenda and review the status of 19 Belarusian ambitious projects launched in Russia. "We have already discussed these matters with the Industry and Trade Ministry and the leadership of the Russian government. Then we highlighted a number of joint projects that are already underway. They relate to machine tool building, microelectronics, and aircraft engineering. Certainly, we would like to participate in other projects related to the renewal of urban public transport in your region," he explained.

The ambassador also proposed discussing the prospects of supplying Belarusian forestry machinery, firefighting equipment and elevators. "We are also interested in projects to construct social facilities, schools, kindergartens and sports complexes," he added.

Georgy Filimonov agreed that Belarus and Vologda Oblast have significant potential to develop cooperation. "We have a much larger potential to improve our cooperation between Vologda Oblast and enterprises of Belarus. We can meet the needs of the region's economy. I am convinced that our potential has not yet been fully realized," the governor stated.
