MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – The fundamental goal of the transport system is to ensure fast, safe, and high-quality transportation of both freight and passengers using all available modes of transport, Belarusian Minister of Transport and Communications Aleksei Lyakhnovich said while addressing the 7th International Transport and Logistics Business Forum “New Silk Way”, held as part of the Kazakhstan Transport Week in Almaty, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus.

“The objective of any modern transport system is to guarantee fast, safe, and high-quality movement of goods and passengers using all modes of transport. Belarus is proud to serve as a reliable partner in achieving this goal. All main international railway routes are fully electrified, enabling container trains to cover up to 1,200 km per day. This network has the capacity to handle over 200 million tonnes of cargo annually, including approximately 70 million tonnes in transit. Furthermore, we provide electronic documentation for all rail freight. Looking ahead, the promising Eurasian Railway Gateway, located within the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, is set to create unprecedented opportunities for business by enhancing the efficiency of freight transportation,” noted Aleksei Lyakhnovich.

“Kazakhstan’s major railway infrastructure projects, namely, the modernization of the Dostyk-Moiynty section and the construction of the new Ayagoz-Bakhty border crossing with China, complete with a container terminal, are set to significantly boost transit capacity along the China-Europe cargo route,” he said.
Separately, Aleksei Lyakhnovich highlighted Belarus’ initiatives in the road transport sector, which include the abolition of the permit system for international freight. He noted that such agreements have already been successfully implemented with several partner nations.

The key event of the business forum was the strategic session “Greater Eurasia: Challenges and Opportunities in the Context of Global Change, Including on International Transport Corridors”. The forum brought together experts and industry leaders to discuss strengthening transit potential, digitalization, and modernization of logistics infrastructure along the New Silk Way.

Furthermore, the 28th International Exhibition TransLogistica Kazakhstan was held as part of the Kazakhstan Transport Week.
