All Belarusian forestry enterprises now connected to digital timber filing system

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) – The Forestry Ministry has finished creating a universal state automated information system for keeping records of timber and transactions involving timber. The system has already been commissioned, all the forestry enterprises accountable to the Forestry Ministry are now connected to it, the ministry's press service told BelTA.

The key purpose of the new software product is to improve the effectiveness of utilization of forest resources through better administration. The system will also automate planning, record keeping, and analysis of all the main business processes and decisions in the sphere of timber harvesting. It will track harvested timber movement at every step.

BelTA reported earlier that the work to develop the digital timber record keeping system began in 2017 upon instructions of the government. The head of state also backed the idea. Belarusian specialists developed the software without using state funds. Similar systems are in use in many countries, including Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. However, their laws concerning timber filing differ considerably from Belarusian ones. This is why it was decided to develop a national software product. The system's deployment will affect interests of all the entities that own forest resources. All the commercial entities will have to start using the system soon if they want to harvest timber in forest reserve lands.

More information about the digital timber filing system is available on the website of the system's operator RUP Belgosles.
