Accreditation hailed as effective tool for assuring competency, trust in different economic sectors

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - Accreditation is an effective tool for assuring competency and trust in a wide variety of areas of economic and social life, Chairman of the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization Valentin Tataritsky said as he extended greetings to the National Accreditation System participants on the occasion of the World Accreditation Day, BelTA learned from the press service of the committee.

The international community celebrates World Accreditation Day on 9 June. This holiday is a global initiative established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Organization (ILAC) in 2008.

“Today, this holiday confidently holds its rightful place in the business calendar, emphasizing the need to use accreditation as an effective tool to assure competency and trust in a variety of areas of economic and public life. This is particularly reflected in the motto of this year's World Accreditation Day - Supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Valentin Tataritsky said.

According to him, over the years Belarus has been consistently developing accreditation as an integral part of the national quality management infrastructure. The accumulated enforcement practice shows that today we have reached a point when we need separate legislation on accreditation. The main goal is to consolidate a unified public policy, to ensure a flexible approach to accreditation depending on the field of activity, to increase the openness and accessibility ofconformity assessments results for different groups of users. The concept of such a law has already been drafted and is being coordinated with the Council of Ministers," he said.

Aleksandr Tataritsky noted that the national accreditation system registry includes 2,142 test, verification, calibration and medical laboratories, 125 bodies for product certification, management and personnel systems, 25 inspection bodies, a qualification verification provider and a Halal certification body. In terms of the test and measurement capabilities of the accredited entities, Belarus holds leading positions at the regional level.

“We spearhead various initiatives in the EAEU and the CIS, new international standards in the field of accreditation and compliance assessment with an aim of improving and harmonizing the laws of the member states and providing real benefits for national economies. As a signatory to multilateral mutual recognition agreements, the accreditation body represented by the Belarusian State Accreditation Center (BSAC) provides domestic exporters with the opportunity to reduce costs as they access various markets. Promoting these advantages will contribute to expanding the export geography of Belarusian products and we see it as our priority. We also intend to increase the importance of accreditation in order to ensure the proper operation of the transparent market of products and services based on their impartial and competent assessment,” Valentin Tataritsky said.
