Dushanbe to host meeting of CIS prosecutors general

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) - The meeting of the CIS Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General will be held in Dushanbe on 20 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The agenda of the meeting includes 17 issues. The participants will sum up the results of the 2017 joint cooperation programs to combat crime, terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, illicit trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, human trafficking, illegal migration, crimes committed using information technologies and strengthening border security at external borders.

The members of the council will consider the issues of improving cooperation in the fight against corruption, protecting the rights of citizens outside their country, implementing international treaties and approving the work plan of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General for 2019-2023. The parties will also exchange experience in various areas of prosecutorial activity, discuss the issue of giving the status of the CIS basic organizations for retraining and advanced training for prosecutors and investigators to the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office and the University of the Russian Prosecutor's Office.

The CIS Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General was established in 1995. It consists of representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The council organizes coordination and integration of the CIS prosecutor general's offices in combating crime, ensuring the rule of law, human and civil rights and freedoms. It studies and generalizes the practice of implementing international treaties on fighting against crime, organizes joint scientific research on the most pressing problems.
