UNECE international conference in Minsk aimed at preventing new dividing lines

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - The UNECE international conference in Minsk aims to find common ground between various integration associations, to prevent the emergence of new dividing lines, and eventually create a common economic space as a major factor for sustainable development of all countries of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said when speaking at the international conference “Laying the foundation in the UNECE region for economic. Integration and sustainable development towards 2030”, BelTA has learned.

It was no accident that Belarus initiated the conference in Minsk together with the UNECE. “Being in the geographical center of Europe, at the crossroads of European and Eurasian integration associations, Belarus is interested in expanding economic diplomacy and fostering strong economic ties regardless of the political preferences of each other. The goal of the conference is commensurable with our aspirations,” Vladimir Makei said.

“We are realists and are well aware that the idea of a greater Europe first made by Charles de Gaulle in 1959 still remains elusive. However, the integration associations in the region have many reasons for rapprochement: proximity, significant trade flows, and the complementarity of resources,” Vladimir Makei said.

The minister is convinced that the role of inter-regional integration cooperation will only increase over time, and the global economic system will become more multi-dimensional and multifaceted.
