Official Minsk welcomes decision of U.S. Embassy to resume full visa services

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - Official Minsk welcomes the decision of the United States Embassy to resume full visa services, Dmitry Mironchik, head of the information and digital diplomacy office, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the media, BelTA has learned.

At a press briefing on 30 January the Embassy of the United States in Minsk announced that they were fully opening for nonimmigrant visa services for citizens and residents of Belarus beginning 1 February 2018. Thus, Belarusian citizens and residents of any age may apply for any category of nonimmigrant U.S. visa at the Embassy in Minsk. “We view this step as an integral part of the overall process of the gradual improvement of the Belarus-U.S. relations,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said while commenting on this decision.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, visa issuance is one of the major consular functions of diplomatic representations. Belarus is happy that “this element in the relations between Belarus and the United States has been normalized.”

“We are confident that the U.S. recent step will promote business, tourism and humanitarian contacts between the two countries,” the official representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
