Investigation into OSCE vehicle explosion in Ukraine's Donbass area continues

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – The internal investigation into the demise of an OSCE mission officer, who was killed when a land mine blew up the vehicle in Ukraine's Donbass area, continues. The OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik made the statement in Minsk on 15 May, BelTA has learned.

According to Martin Sajdik, on 15 May the subgroup on security heard out a report on progress in investigating the incident. One OSCE mission officer was killed and another two were injured on 23 April when their vehicle rolled over a land mine. “It is an outrageous incident. This and a number of other situations once again underscore that all sides of the conflict should respect the mission's mandate and ensure the safe operation of the mission,” said the diplomat.

The incident also reminded about the need to clear the mines in the area. Maps depicting the location of the mines are needed for that. The maps are needed not only for keeping OSCE observers safe but also for preventing civilian casualties, noted Martin Sajdik.
