Belarus-Holy See cooperation discussed in Vatican

MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – Cooperation between Belarus and the Holy See was discussed during a working trip of Belarus' Ambassador to the UK with concurrent accreditation to the Holy See Sergei Aleinik to Vatican, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sergei Aleinik attended the New Year's audience of Pope Francis for diplomats accredited in the Holy See. The Belarusian Ambassador had a brief conversation with the Pontific.

The Belarusian diplomat met with Vatican Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See's Secretariat of State Paul Gallagher. The parties talked over bilateral cooperation, including the progress made in the implementation of the agreements reached during the official visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Vatican in May 2016.

The Belarusian Ambassador also held meetings with Director of the Vatican Museums Barbara Jatta and Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Library Cesare Pasini to discuss further development of cultural cooperation.
