Intelligent video surveillance system to be installed on Belarus-Ukraine border

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – There are plans to install an intelligent video surveillance system on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) Yuri Senko told media, BelTA has learnt.

"In 2016 we are planning to sign a €350,000 contract for the development of an automated intelligent video surveillance system to monitor the movement of vehicles and goods through the Belarusian-Ukrainian border,” said Yuri Senko.

According to him, there are plans to equip five checkpoints of the Gomel and Brest customs with stationary radiation monitoring equipment. The project will be implemented jointly with the United States Department of Energy. The project budget is $10 million.

Yuri Senko stated that in 2015 Belarus' SCC signed 13 treaties, 4 of which are intergovernmental and are aimed at promoting cooperation and providing mutual assistance in customs matters with Georgia, Syria, China and Pakistan.

Work continues to improve the customs legislation in the Eurasian Economic Commission. “Representatives of Belarus' State Customs Committee took an active part in the meetings of the working group to promote Belarus' interests as the draft Customs Code the Eurasian Economic Union was finalized. Incorporating Belarus' proposals into this document will make foreign trade regulation more transparent and easier,” said Yuri Senko

By 2020 the Belarusian customs plans to conclude treaties on mutual assistance in customs matters with governments in more than ten states, including Bulgaria, the UK, Germany, Indonesia, France, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Japan.
