Belarus, Ukraine discuss Ukrainian electricity import resumption

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – The possibility of resuming the delivery of electricity from Ukraine to Belarus was discussed during the meeting of Belarusian First Deputy Energy Minister Leonid Shenets and Ukrainian Energy Industry and Coal Industry Minister Igor Nasalyk in Minsk on 6 June, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

According to the source, topical aspects of Belarusian-Ukrainian cooperation in energy industry were discussed, including the possible resumption of Ukrainian electricity export to Belarus. The sides also discussed the technical feasibility of parallel operation of the Belarusian and Ukrainian power grids and the provision of emergency aid when necessary.

The meeting resulted in an agreement that it is necessary to continue working out a concerted position on these matters during sessions of the Belarusian-Ukrainian working group on cooperation in energy industry on terms that meet interests and capabilities of the sides.

Taking part in the meeting were top executives of the Ukrainian electrical companies NEK Ukrenergo and Ukrinterenergo, the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo, the Belarusian power grid control enterprise RUP ODU, and representatives of the diplomatic missions.
