Paris Olympics silver medalist Yauheni Zalaty: I gave it my all

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Paris Olympics silver medalist Yauheni Zalaty of Belarus shared his first impressions after the men's single sculls final on 3 August, the press service of the National Olympic Committee told BelTA.

Yauheni Zalaty was second only to the record holder Oliver Zeidler of Germany. It was the first major podium for the 24-year-old Belarusian.

“I didn't expect my rivals to pull out all the stops at the very start. I had to put in maximum effort in the final stretch of the race. I gave it my all. Neither the bus breakdown before the race nor any other circumstances had an impact, I rowed at the top of my game. This is Belarus' first ever Olympic medal in men's rowing. I am beyond happy. I am sending love to my country, and especially to Krasnopolye. I know how they were rooting for me in Mogilev Oblast!” the silver medalist said.

Thus, the Belarusian delegation of neutral athletes has already won three medals of the Olympic Games in Paris. The day before Belarusian trampoline gymnast Ivan Litvinovich defended his champion title while Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya clinched silver in the women’s trampoline final.
