Olympics 2024: Belarus’ Khaslakhanau bows out

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Belarusian wrestler Abubakar Khaslakhanau bowed out of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian competed in the 97kg weight category. Abubakar Khaslakhanau was second-seeded among 16 wrestlers. The Belarusian beat Georgia’s Roberti Kobliashvili in 1/8 final but lost to Egypt’s Muhamed Gabr in the next round. Should Egyptian wrestler Muhamed Gabr have advanced to the final the Belarusian would have had a bronze-medal repechage. However, the Egyptian lost to Mohammad Hadi Saravi of Iran in the semifinal bout, which erased Abubakar Khaslakhanau’s chances to a medal.

Thus, Khaslakhanau is leaving Paris, and Saravi will face Armenian Artur Aleksanyan in the Olympic final.
