MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Best Athletes Cup in Swimming will kick off in Minsk’s world-class swimming pool on 20 November, with top Belarusian athletes set to compete, BelTA has learned.

Around 500 representatives from 11 countries have registered for the tournament. Among the participants are winners and medalists of World and European Championships, as well as Olympic finalists. The tournament will also host the Belarusian Short Course Swimming Championships.

“I am happy that the new pool will host such a significant international event. This is the result of our federation’s work at the congress in Singapore during the World Championships, where we established contacts with many countries. We received positive feedback, and as a result, the tournament will gather about 500 participants. I hope that our top athletes will live up to their titles while our reserve team will find motivation in these performances. I am confident that the Best Athletes Cup will give an impetus to the development of swimming in our country,” the head of the Belarusian Swimming Federation Olga Stepus said.

“We prepared for the tournament at home, holding two training camps: one in Brest and one in Minsk. Alina Zmushka trained separately; she was in a training camp in Gelendzhik,” the coach of the national team Andrei Lipnitsky added. “Earlier this autumn, we managed to ensure the participation of Anastasiya Shkurdai and Ilya Shymanovich in the World Cup stages in North America in the shortest possible time. This is important because Los Angeles will soon host the Olympic Games. We need to be ready when the time for the main competition comes.”

On the first day of competition, 20 November, the morning session kicks off at 10 a.m., while the evening session begins at 5 p.m. The first day features 11 medal events. The entire tournament in Minsk will see 46 finals over four days.
