Glen Hanlon happy with Lalande's debut at worlds

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Team Belarus head coach Glen Hanlon is happy with goalkeeper Kevin Lalande's debut at the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Minsk on 15 May, BelTA has learned.

Glen Hanlon confessed that at the pregame warm-up he thought about Vitali Koval for the game against Finland. However, Vitali Koval as well as Andrei Mezin both felt not well. That was the reason to give the Thursday game start to Kevin Lalande. Against all the odds, Kevin showed a very good play, Glen Hanlon noted.

He added that Team Belarus took on one of the world's best teams on Thursday. “I have been watching this team for a few years already, admiring their results. Today's match showed a good hockey from both the teams. The game was decided by just one goal. We had chances to score but we failed to do it. We were good at moving the puck, holding it but were unable to beat the Finnish goalie. I think it was one of those matches where the goalie is named the Player of the Game,” Glen Hanlon noted.

The Thursday game was tight-checking and defense-focused. The teams tied in 15 shots on goal. However, according to Glen Hanlon, it does not matter. The main thing is the final score and it was 2-0 in favor of the Finnish team.
