MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Belarusian and Russian athletes have been cleared to compete in European Gymnastics tournaments, the press service of the Belarusian Gymnastics Association told BelTA.
The relevant decision was made at the 31st European Gymnastics Congress in Prague. Previously, our athletes could only compete under a neutral flag at tournaments of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), but not of the European Gymnastics ones. This inconsistency ruled Belarusians out of the Paris 2024 Olympics, since the qualifying event was the European Gymnastics Championships, where our athletes were barred from competing.
The European Gymnastics decision to clear Belarusians and Russians to compete will come into force on 1 January 2026.
