MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The Belarus national under-21 football team suffered their second defeat in the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying competition, BelTA has learned.

Belarus U21 started their match against Denmark in Gori, Georgia, with a narrow 0-1 defeat. The first half saw the Danes with a slight advantage, but the Belarusians responded with sharp counterattacks in a period that ended goalless. The second half was only minutes old when a rapid Danish attack ended with Clement Bischoff firing his team into the lead. The goal prompted a spirited response from Belarus, who pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but they could not convert their chances.

Last week, the Belarusians claimed their first victory in the tournament with a convincing 3-0 clean sheet over Wales. Earlier, also in Gori, the team had played out a 1-1 draw with Belgium and suffered a 2-3 defeat to Austria.

The standings in qualification Group I after the first round are as follows: Austria – 7 points, Belgium – 7, Denmark – 7, Belarus – 4, Wales – 3.

The schedule for the Belarusian national team in 2026 features the following qualifiers: against Wales on 27 March, Austria on 31 March, Belgium on 24 September, and Denmark on 28 September.

The winners of the nine qualifying groups and the best runner-up will earn direct tickets to the final tournament. The eight other teams that finish second will contest the playoffs in November 2026 for the four remaining spots. The final tournament of the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship will be held in Serbia and Albania in the early summer of 2027, with both host nations receiving automatic qualification.
