Belarus’ Talai wins bronze at 2013 IAAF World Challenge in Beijing


MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – The best Belarusian athlete in 2012 Alina Talai has won the women’s 100m hurdles bronze at the 2013 IAAF World Challenge in Beijing, BelTA has learnt.

Anna Talai came in third in 13.09 seconds. The rest of the pedestal belonged to the U.S. Kelly Wells was first (12.87) with Ginnie Crawford second (13.03).

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Sweden’s Goteborg in March Alina Talai clinched the women’s 60m hurdles silver finishing in 7.94 seconds, which was her new personal record. Alina Talai’s 100m hurdles personal record is 12.71 seconds, the result that she achieved at the 2012 London Olympics qualification. The Orsha native also won the women’s 100m hurdles silver at the 2012 European Athletics Championships with the result of 12.91 seconds.

Other Belarusians partaking in the 2013 IAAF World Challenge in Beijing failed to collect any medals. Dmitry Plotnitsky was 7th in the triple jump with 16.23 meters. Alyona Grishko-Dubitskaya got the 6th place in the shot put. Her result was 17.35 meters.

The venue of the 2013 IAAF World Challenge is the Bird's Nest (officially the National Stadium) located in the Chinese capital. The arena played host to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
