MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Yahor Papou has become a medalist at the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Durres, Albania, BelTA has learned.
Papou’s haul of three medals came in the U23 71kg category. He clinched the snatch small gold with successful lifts of 144kg, 149kg, and 151kg. In the clean and jerk, Yahor made successful attempts at 175kg and 183kg, taking a small silver medal, finishing second only to Türkiye’s Yusuf Genc. The Belarusian also placed second in the total with a score of 334kg, with the Turkish representative securing victory with a total of 340kg.
Earlier on 30 October, Belarusian Artur Yakushau (U20, 71kg) claimed bronze in the clean and jerk and narrowly missed the podium in the total, finishing fourth. His brother Raman Yakushau placed sixth in the overall standings. The tournament has brought together more than 400 young weightlifters from 42 countries. The Belarusian team is represented by 22 athletes. The competitions in Albania will last until 4 November.
