Belarus’ Nhuyen secures spot at 2025 Karate World Championships

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian athlete Devid Nhuyen has secured a spot at the 2025 Karate World Championships scheduled for late November in Cairo, Egypt, BelTA has learned.

With his performance at the qualifying tournament in Paris, Nhuyen reached the top six in the men’s -75 kg category. Devid began with group stage victories over Martin Ciaky of Slovakia, Sanjin Hukara of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hamoon Derafshipour of Refugee Karate Team before securing his World Championship spot with a playoff win against Poland’s Lukasz Bankowski. Other qualifiers in this category included athletes representing Italy, Armenia, Angola, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia.

A total of 550 athletes from 105 countries will be competing for spots at the World Championships in Egypt. 18 October will see our competitors Maryia Malakhava (+68 kg), Maksim Kashyrski (-60 kg), and Oleg Melyokhin (-67 kg) enter the Paris qualification fray. The tournament will conclude on 19 October with Belarusians Volha Ramaniuk (-68 kg), Hleb Sachkouski (-84 kg), and Ivan Kudzinau (+84 kg) taking to the tatami.
