Belarus, Latvia sign agreement to co-host 2021 IIHF World Championship

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Ice Hockey Federations of Belarus and Latvia signed an agreement to co-host the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Riga on 15 February, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Gennady Savilov and president of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation Aigars Kalvitis. The agreement specifies the budget of the tournament, the responsibilities of the federations and a marketing strategy.

Belarus and Latvia received the right to co-host the World Ice Hockey Championship in 2021 at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Congress in Cologne in May 2017. The joint bid of Minsk and Riga won 55 votes.

The two neighboring countries have already hosted the world championships: Latvia in 2006, Belarus in 2014. The final and semifinal matches of the 2021 IIHF World Championship will be held in Minsk.
