Hanna Huskova
MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – Belarusian freestyle skier Hanna Huskova was satisfied with her performance at the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Italy, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.
The leader of the Belarusian aerials team advanced to the final with the eighth result among 25 qualification participants. In her best final attempt, Huskova scored 100.29 points and also took eighth place. China’s Xu Mengtao became a two-time Olympic champion, Australia’s Danielle Scott took silver, and bronze went to another Chinese athlete Shao Qi.
“You all saw it yourself. I gave it 100 percent, executed my jumps cleanly, and then it’s up to the judges. It’s hard to comment. This is very strange for me. If I had fallen, I could blame myself,” Hanna said. “I’m very glad that I performed the program well. I had to do the jump in the final for the first time this season to increase the difficulty. I did everything for a medal, but unfortunately, there’s nothing to add. Even the stadium announcer said: ‘Bravisimo!’ However, that doesn’t change the fact that I’m not in the top six.”
Two other Belarusian athletes, Anastasiya Andryianava and Anna Derugo, finished 16th and 17th respectively. Hanna Huskova noted that Belarusian freestyle skiers deserve nothing but words of support. “It’s a miracle we even made it. We only started alpine skiing training in December, and in such a short time, the girls and I managed to qualify for the Olympics and show everything we are capable of. And everyone saw how well we performed,” she emphasized.
