MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes have won two medals at the 2025 U23 World Wrestling Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, BelTA has learned.
The last Belarusian hopeful for a podium finish at the event was freestyle wrestler Nikita Dmitrijevs Mayeuski in the 79 kg category. After securing wins against Canadian Connor Church, Moldovan Ion Marcu, and Kazakhstan’s Yerkhan Abil, the Belarusian wrestler suffered a semifinal defeat to Ibrahim Yaprak of Türkiye. Dmitrijevs concluded his run with a loss to Cuban wrestler Geannis Garzon Tamayo in the bronze medal match.
Belarus’ medal haul was entirely from the women’s wrestling events: a silver medal for Aryna Dzemchanka Martynava in the 57 kg category and a bronze for Yana Tretsiak in the 62 kg category. Viktoryia Volk (53 kg), along with Greco-Roman wrestlers Hleb Makaranka (67 kg) and Abubakar Khaslakhanau (97 kg), were defeated in their respective bronze medal bouts.
The 2025 U23 World Wrestling Championships brought together about 700 athletes, including twenty Belarusian wrestlers.
