Belarus claim four medals at Russian Swimming Cup opener

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes won two medals on the second and final day of the opening stage of the 2026 Russian Swimming Cup, BelTA has learned.

The competitions were held in Ruza, Moscow Oblast. On 19 February, Ilya Shymanovich took second place in the 50m breaststroke, finishing behind Ivan Kozhakin representing Magadan Oblast. Another silver for the Belarusian team was secured by Artsiom Yarmak, who placed second in the 100m backstroke behind St. Petersburg’s Miron Lifintsev. The day before, Yarmak and Shymanovich also stepped onto the podium: Artsiom took gold in the 50m backstroke, while Ilya was second in the 100m breaststroke.

Belarus’ medal haul from the competition in Ruza stands at four: one gold and three silver. Five more Belarusians finished in the top 15 on 19 February: Marharyta Kalistratava came 5th in the 50m backstroke, Aliaksandra Shleika and Maryna Vasilevich placed 11th in the 200m and 50m freestyle respectively, while Rastsislau Audzei and Henrykh Tankovich finished 14th and 15th in the 200m breaststroke. Obninsk will host the second stage of the Russian Swimming Cup on 21-22 February.
