MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusian weightlifter Alena Bondarava has won a silver medal at the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Durres, Albania, BelTA has learned.

The athlete made the podium in the women’s U23 +86kg category. Bondarava dominated the snatch, clearing 105kg, 108kg, and 110kg to win the small gold. The clean and jerk saw her succeed with 125kg and 130kg, but her final attempt at 135kg was unsuccessful. Georgia’s Natia Gadelia made that crucial lift, surpassing the Belarusian by a mere kilogram in the overall standings (241kg vs 240kg). Bondarava settled for silver, and the podium was rounded out by Germany’s Kiara Klug (235kg).

Earlier, Belarusians Dziyana Maiseyevich and Andrei Fralou clinched gold at the continental forum in Albania, with Darya Kheidzer, Yahor Papou, and Ihnatsi Pauliukavets claiming silver medals in the total. Rounding out the Belarusian team’s schedule in Durres are Siarhei Sharankou and Uladzislau Sakovich, set to compete in the men’s U23 110kg event.
