3rd CIS Games: Belarus win eight medals at start of rowing event

MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes won eight medals as the rowing and canoe sprint event commenced at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry.

Five gold and one bronze medal were won in canoe sprint. Victories among the kayakers were secured by Emil Abalmasau (U18, 200m), Ilya Filimonau (U20, 500m), Artsyom Vaitseshyn (U16, 500m), and the duo of Emil Abalmasau and Heorhi Varazhun (U18, 200m)

Among the canoeists, the best result was achieved by Ivan Kharuzhy and Aliaksei Mahliui (U18, 200m). Ivan Badytchyk won bronze in the men's U16 K1 200m event.

In rowing, Daniil Talyko became the CIS Games champion in the U18 category, while Dmitry Serebro clinched bronze in the U20 category.

Four more events in canoe sprint and two more finals in rowing are scheduled for 6 October during the second and final day of competitions at the rowing canal in Mingachevir.
