MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – A new survey by the National Statistical Committee of Belarus has detailed the time men and women in Belarus spend on housework, BelTA has learned.

The data comes from a sample household survey conducted to study the population’s daily time use. The results show that on weekends, 91% of adult women prepare meals, compared to 42% of men. When they do cook, women spend an average of 1 hour and 27 minutes, while men spend 49 minutes.

A similar pattern exists for cleaning: 69% of women clean their homes, spending 1 hour and 1 minute on the task, while only 35% of men do so, for an average of 42 minutes.

The gap narrows for shopping, with 52% of women and 44% of men doing it on weekends. The time spent is nearly identical, at 48 and 49 minutes respectively.

Overall, the National Statistical Committee calculated that the average Belarusian spends just over 2.5 years of their life preparing food, 1 year and 2 months cleaning their home, and almost 10 months shopping.
